The Moon-Lit Sessions

My lifestyle has changed a bit in the last few months, and I’m up at all hours of the night. I’m beginning to realize why God made me a night owl, he was just prepping me for motherhood.

I’ve always liked the night-time. Growing up I’d stay up watching Nick at Nite until the wee hours of the morning and the infomercials would take over. As I got older (and Nick at Nite stopped playing the good shows) I’d spend those late nights watching movies, writing in my journals, or reading. When I lived in Nashville, those hours are where I found my solitude to write, to think, to be creative. (I used to have another blog on Tumblr that was primarily pictures, but fun and inspiring.)

So now as I find myself awake in the wee hours of the night I revisit some of those habits. I find myself searching to be inspired. Which raises the questions, What inspires me? Where am I pouring out my creativity? What makes my soul feel energized?

I think it’s important to stay inspired and to ask yourself these questions often. To keep your mind stimulated. To do things that “fill your cup” so to speak. One of my favorite sayings is, “you can’t pour from an empty cup,” meaning you must first make sure you are taking care of yourself before you can start “pouring” or reaching out to love/help/appreciate others. If to haven’t taken the time to nurture and take care of your own soul and mind, how can you help others?

So what feeds your soul? What makes you feel alive and happy? Maybe it’s writing. Maybe it’s baking. Maybe it’s climbing a mountain. Maybe it’s sitting alone, in the quiet for 5 minutes. Whatever feeds you, whatever fills your cup, make sure you’re making time for that. Now, I know that’s much easier said than done. If I’ve learned anything from becoming a mother it is this, time is no longer yours, and has taken on a whole new meaning. I don’t think one truly understands time until it’s no longer their own. Haha! But honestly, I understand how “finding the time” can truly be a difficult thing.

But I urge you, find the time to recharge and fill your cup. In this season of my life, in those late night sessions, I find myself in prayer more often than not. Prayer has a way of recharging me spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. It can inspire me and inspire new thoughts and ideas. Never underestimate what prayer can do for you.

So what do your “moon-lit sessions” look like? How are you recharging and staying inspired? I want to hear from my readers about what’s inspiring you or how you’re staying inspired!

The Month of Peaches

August. My birth month. Also the month that so many kids dread, because it means school is starting. Growing up, it seemed like school always started on my birthday. Now as an adult, August doesn’t seem so bad. My favorite part–it means FALL IS COMING! I love fall. So while I’ll try to keep this inspiration board in summertime vibe, it’s hard to not let some Fall creep in. 😉 It also means–Peaches! Peach everything in August! As always, I hope you enjoy!

“August feels like a hinge in the year. Swing backwards and summer is there, swing forward and fall is waiting. I’m in the swing forward camp. I’m never sorry to see the summer end, although I’ll miss the peaches. I’m ready for sweaters and socks and new suede shoes.”

I’ve gotten pretty slack on my monthly mood/inspiration boards. Is it something y’all still enjoy? Would you rather see me do a different type of monthly post? I’d love to hear your thoughts, message me below or shoot me an e-mail, I’m always open to suggestions! aspottedheart@gmail.com

May Inspiration

May has been such a weird month. We started out with snow and have had lots of rain and wind. It’s flown by and I feel like it’s been a complete whirlwind of a month, yet it’s lasted forever. I realized I hadn’t posted a mood/inspiration board for this month! So here are some things that have been in my mind’s eye this month, keeping me motivated and inspired.

Can you tell I’ve been day dreaming about a new bathroom? 🙂 I enjoy doing this inspiration/mood posts, because it helps me express my mood and feelings and inspirations of that month. It helps give me a vision for the month at hand. Do you, my followrs, enjoy them or would you rather see me do a different type of “monthly series?” Let me know in the comments below! Or e-mail me at aspottedheart@gmail.com

I’d love to hear from you!!

OkieWild

I’ve been blessed by knowing incredibly talented people in my life. From musicians, , to artist, to poetic masterminds, to creative DIY geniuses! I’ve been lucky enough to have some pretty inspiring people in my life.

Today I want to talk about one that’s been in my life since day 1. My cousin, Sam. Growing up, we were best friends, even though we lived 5 hours apart, that didn’t stop our endless phone calls, our summer adventures, and our ever-growing love for creativeness and imagination.

Sam’s always had great interior-design-type taste! Always decorating with fun, funky colors and cool, creative pieces. She’s a cowgirl at heart with a Rock n Roll, gypsy soul! She’s rodeoed most of her life, and I can remember a time when she redid a complete dresser in funky pinks and oranges, then used belt buckles as the drawer handles. It was so stinkin’ cute! Well now she’s started her own little business called OkieWild Customs. She’s just starting out and she makes one of a kind signs for your homes, offices, business and probably whatever else you can think of!

This bad boy hangs proudly on my red office wall. One of my husband’s favorite quotes from The Duke, himself.

Sam made this one for her friend’s bar in Stillwater, OK.

They also make great gifts! This is oneSam made for a friend of she and her husband’s initials and wedding date. It’s called the “Babe, I Got You Babe!” Such a cute idea!

She has creative, fun ideas. I’m just waiting for her to start doing custom furniture (hint hint Sam!) 😄

You can go visit her Etsy shop: OkieWild Customs

Also follow her on Instagram here

I promise you’ll find unique, one of a kind pieces that you’ll love! The best part is, she’ll customize it as much as you want. So go check her out and drop her a note!
