Saturday Favorites: New Mom Edition

I figured what better “favorites” list to do this Saturday, but one of a new mom! I realize this won’t be all that interesting for some of you, but as a new Mom there are definitely some things I couldn’t function without along with a few “wish list” items as well. So without further adieu, here we go:

The Snuggle Me Organic

This wonderful little lounger is something I am so glad I invested in. When I lie Little Bear in it, it envelopes him in and he snuggles down and is comfortable and happy. Its’s sling design mimics being held and cuddled. This has been a life-saver for us! Plus it’s made in the USA!

Mud Pie Swaddles

I got a couple sets of these muslin swaddles for baby gifts and I absolutely love them! I received several nice, pretty swaddles but I think the Mud Pie ones are my favorite if for nothing more than the simple fact of, they’ve kept their softness. You seriously can not have enough swaddle blankets. You’d be surprised how often you use one.

Rock n’ Play

This is definitely one of those things I think all moms need. It’s so nice to be able to lay Little Bear down in it when I need to get some things done around the house. It rocks him back and forth and even has 3 different sound settings to soothe him as he sleeps. This is a must for us! It’s also light and easy to move around, which is a plus in my books.

Cloud Island Burp Cloths

Something I definitely underestimated before motherhood were burp cloths! I never gave much thought to them to tell you the truth and it wasn’t really something that was on my “radar” of things I needed. Boy am I glad I had mamas that knew otherwise! I got a set of these Cloud Island burp cloths that are perfectly soft and nice and long to drape over your shoulder or across baby’s back while burping. They’re the perfect material to soak up any spit-up or drool that baby might have. My sister also made me some really soft and cute ones that are my go-to for using on Little Bear’s face because of their plush softness. My point is-make sure you have good burp cloths.

Owlet Baby Care Monitor

We got this as a gift from my parents and let me tell you, its made the difference in how well we sleep. It’s a baby heart and oxygen monitor that goes on their foot when you put them down to sleep. It has a “Home” base that goes by the crib and it connects to your phone via wi-fi. Anytime I want to check Little Bear’s heart rate, I click on the app and it shows me his heart rate and oxygen levels. Any time one goes below what’s considered a normal level, it sends an alarm to my phone and the base station alarm goes off and it turns red. This has made sleeping so much better because I know if our guy is in danger that alarm will go off and we can take action. I can’t tell you how much better I sleep at night knowing this. Now, that doesn’t go to say I don’t still wake up several times a night to check on him, but it definitely gives me peace of mind. This is something I think is most certainly worth the investment!

Now for a couple of “wish list” items:

WildBird Sling

I’m in love with these slings. I received a Moby sling and it works good, but unfortunately Little Bear isn’t a big fan of it. He’ll tolerate it for about 5 minutes, then he’s done. I think it’s getting him situated in it that gets him so frustrated. I think with the Wildbird Sling, it would only take a second to plop him in and go. Something I really love about WildBird is there isn’t some big manufacturing company making these, they’ve hired 45+ seamstresses that are moms, that work from their own home to create these beautiful slings. I think that’s pretty spectacular, giving mom’s the chance to stay at him with their baby birds.

Mama Wolf

Every new mom needs a tee stating her new title, and this is my current fav! “Mama Wolf” I love this on so many levels!

Happy Mother’s Day, Mamas!

Wednesday {Pregnancy} Favorites

Today I want to share what has become some of my go-to’s since I’ve become pregnant. {Keep in mind, these aren’t just pregnancy products, anyone can use them!}

I never realized how aware I’d become of not only what I put in my body but on my body. I’ve always heard all the things you can and can’t have to eat while pregnant, and trust me, the struggle is real! The interesting thing is that what you’re putting on your body can be just as detrimental because it can still penetrate into your bloodstream and through your body to the little bear you’re growing inside. I’ve always tried to use more natural products but I realized not everything is as “natural” as they appear. Being pregnant it’s not recommended to use any beauty products that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. There are some other ingredients that are also questionable, but these two are the main ones to try to stay away from using. I’m currently 24- weeks pregnant and these are some of my current natural skin care favorites I’ve used that, as far as I’ve found, do not contain either of those ingredients!

  1. Green + Lovely Better-than-Butter Belly Oil

Belly oil

Y’all, I’m pretty certain this stuff has been my saving grace from stretch marks starting! I started using this on my belly, chest, and thighs since around week 12 of pregnancy and haven’t seen a stretch mark yet. This oil has all kinds of goodness in it to help your skin with elasticity and to stay hydrated through the stages of pregnancy. It’s made with olive, coconut, and almond oils, along with essential oil and non GMO Vitamin E oil. I’ve used the Lavender scented and the one I’m currently using is tangerine orange, which I think I actually prefer over the Lavender. This stuff is pure gold in my books!

2. Whiskey River Soap Company Deodorant

I’ve been using this deodorant for over a year now and absolutely love it! My cousin and her friend actually make it, along with a few other healthy skincare products. It’s all natural ingredients and completely aluminum-free! I love the grapefruit, but they also make Lemon, Lavender, and Purification. It’s been such a great alternative to store bought deodorant and my underarms are smooth and don’t break out from shaving like they used to. It’s wonderful stuff!

3. U.S. Apothecary Witch Hazel Face & Body Tonic

I personally think one should always have witch hazel on hand. It’s great for itchy bites and healing scrapes and cuts. I bought this on a whim when we visited The Pioneer Woman’s Mercantile last spring. It has an added rose water which makes it a great toner for your face after you’ve washed it at night or before you put on your makeup in the mornings. When I became pregnant my tummy (and belly button) started to feel itchy because of all the stretching my skin was starting to do. I found this tonic spray highly helpful! When I start to have an itchy spot on my tummy or side I just spritz this on and it soothes the itch and subsidies the urge to scratch. I love this stuff, though I found its not easy to find. The best part is, it’s only 3 ingredients!

4. Young Living Tee Tree Oil

When you’re pregnant you may have these really fun hormonal breakouts (sense the sarcasm.) The hard thing is to find something safe you can use to help prevent and rid these breakouts. I found that if I put one to two drops of Tee Tree oil on a q-tip and held it on the place a few seconds after washing my face, usually in the morning it was barely noticeable or almost completely gone. This has really been a life saver. It’s even helped cleanse the air in my house when I diffuse it in the evenings. Gives me a fresh, clean feeling. I can never say enough good things about my Young Living Oils! If ever you’re interested in Young Living, send me a message or email me, I’d love to help you out!

5. Korres Wild Rose Brightening 24-hour Moisturizer

I’d like to give a big shout-out to my Ipsy bag for sending me this little treasure! This is only a travel size but it started me off on the right foot when I first became pregnant and realized my usual moisturizer had salicylic acid in it. I was glad that I hadn’t used this up yet and grew to love the way it made my skin feel and look. I’m looking forward to getting a full sized jar of it. It’s so silky, it feels great!

There you have it, my current top 5 “pregnancy safe” products! Hope you’ve enjoyed, and keep in mind, these aren’t just pregnancy products, anyone can use them!

***Disclaimer***

I am not claiming that all pregnant women would be safe to use the products above, I’m only stating what has worked so far for me in my personal pregnancy. Every woman, and every woman’s body and pregnancy can be different. Always consult your doctor if you’re unsure or have questions about using a product. Never just “take someone’s advice,” do your own research to see what’s going to work best for you! 🙂

My Favorite Oils

I’m sure everyone has heard of essential oils in some form or fashion. I use my Young Living oils on a daily basis, whether it be for allergies, to uplift my mood, or something else, I try to turn to oils first. Today I want to share with you 6 of my favorite oils.

Lavender

Lavender was the first oil I really felt confident and safe in using. The smell of lavender holds a special place in my heart. When One Cute Cowboy and I got married, our friends and family threw lavender at us when we left, instead of bird seed or bubbles. The smell, to this day, still reminds me of leaving with him, hand-in-hand as Mr. & Mrs. I just love it.

Anyway, on with the oil! This is one of my favorites because it is so versatile! Traditionally it’s been known to balance the body and to work wherever it is needed. From stretch marks, to the cardiovascular system, to down-in-the-dumps, to wrinkles, to sleeplessness, this is a great oil.

This is one I diffuse every night, not only to help with sleep, but it’s part of my seasonal blend that I diffuse every night. This combination helps cool down the body’s inflammation. Lavender is also great for bug bites. It helps heal them, and keep them from itching. I’m one of those people who has some kind of crazy DNA that makes bugs looooovvve me, so I go through several bottles  of lavender in the summertime. It’s also great for burns. It’s important that you use pure therapeutic grade oils when dealing with burns, or anything for that matter. Young Living oils are all pure therapeutic grade oils. Which means they are in their purest form from the origins they come from. I had a bad 2nd degree burn a couple of years ago, and it was Young Living’s Lavender that I trusted to use on it and heal it. I always, always have a bottle of Lavender on hand.

Lemon

I absolutely love this oil! It smells so fresh and clean. It’s an antidepressant, antioxidant, and antiviral just to name a few. I love to diffuse this one when I feel like I’m in a funk. It helps uplift your mood and it’s just a bonus that it makes your house smell like you just got done doing a deep clean. It’s also a great air purifier for when you feel like your house has a funky smell, or if you have animals inside, this helps rid that pet smell sometimes those lovey-doveys put off.

Lemon is also a great cleaning agent. I use it in my sinks, my washing machine, and it’s great for my garbage disposal. I love love love Lemon! Put a drop in your water, and taste it’s bursting flavor!

Peppermint

I’m a lover of all types of mint. Peppermint being my favorite. Peppermint has been used to help with digestive systems for centuries, soothing digestive difficulties. It’s also great for head tension, digestive difficulties , motion sickness, and seasonal support. I use this in my diffuser a lot. Its a great one to mix with other scents to freshen things up. I also use this in my shower to help open up my sinuses, put it in my hot tea when I’m feeling under the weather, and sometimes just plain ‘ol diffuse it for a mood lifter. When I’ve had tummy trouble, putting a drop of this oil in a glass of water and drinking it has helped tremendously. I love peppermint!

Frankincense

This is the mother of all oils. It’s my go-to when I don’t know what else to use. It’s mentioned being used over 52 times in the Bible, and is considered a holy oil. This is an immune stimulant and overall great wellness booster. I diffuse it often at night in my nightly mix. It’s said to be a good emotional balancer which is gold in my books. This is also a good oil for anti aging, and problematic skin. One of my biggest uses for it, is when I have a tummy ache, I rub it on my stomach/abdomen and it helps relive pains. It’s also a great oil to diffuse while praying or concentrating, for it increases spiritual awareness. It’s an expensive oil, but one I find is well worth the money. I never let mine run out.

Stress-Away-Essential-Oil

Picture borrowed from the Young Living website

Stress Away

I absolutely love the smell of this oil. It does exactly what is says, it melts stress away. If you read about this oil on Young Living it states,

Those suffering from stress tend to have weaker immune systems, and are more susceptible to cardiovascular diseases, and to experience more premature cell aging. This blend is specifically formulated to relieve everyday stresses and tensions…for a healthier and happier life.

To me, that says it all. It comes in a handy roller bottle so I love to keep this one in my purse so when I’m feeling overwhelmed or stressed, no matter where I am, I can roll a little bit across the back of my neck or my wrists and breathe in it’s lovely scent. This is a compound oil, consisting of: Copal (or Capaiba), Lime, Cedarwood, Ocotea, and Lavender. These oils have healing properties of anti-inflammation, lifting depression, aiding in emotional balance, and relaxation, just to name a few.

Sacred Mountain

Last, but not least Sacred Mountain. I love this woodsy blend. This is a blend of 4 different oils. Spruce, which helps ground the body, creating balance, helping one release emotional blocks. Ylang Ylang helping balance the male & female energies. It brings feelings of joy, self-love, and peace. Fir helps the feelings of empowerment, and Cedarwood, which was traditionally used by indians to enhance their spiritual communication. This combination gives off a really positive vibe, that I love. It helps when I’m feeling a little off-kilter to diffuse this oil. Especially when I’m feeling out of sorts, or emotionally drained. It has a nice woodsy smell to it, and I love diffusing this one on a rainy day. Also, a great one to diffuse during prayer, meditation, or your daily devotional time. Fun fact found on the Young Living app on Sacred Mountain,

The conifer oils have been traditionally used by the North American Indians symbolically to represent the umbrella they create in protecting the Earth and bringing energy in from the universe. At night, the animals in the wild lie under the trees for the protection, recharging, and rejuvenation the trees bring to them.

Oils can be a powerful thing, they’ve been used for centuries, and I’m a firm believer in their powers.

So there are my 6 favorite oils! I’d love to hear feedback from ya’ll on what you think about essential oils.

As always,

**Keep in mind, I am not a doctor, I am not a homeopathic guru, I’m just sharing what’s worked for me and my family. I highly recommend consulting with a doctor before orally consuming any oil. Also, I don’t recommend using straight oil on the skin if you’ve never used that particular oil before. When using an oil for the first time I always recommend using it with a carrier oil like Coconut oil or any vegetable based oil, for it may show skin irritants otherwise. Cinnamon bark is a potent oil along with Clove. Always keep in mind while using oils to use sparingly. Lastly I am not saying these oils will cure any ailment, I’m simply stating that these are oils that have worked for me.**

The Merc

This weekend One Cute Cowboy made a sweet gesture and loaded me up to go to the Pioneer Woman’s Mercantile in Pawhuska,OK. I’ve been wanting to go since she opened but we’ve been so busy with cattle it’s never worked out to go. I’ve been following along her blog for years and continuously like her more and more as she goes out on her adventures from books, to a cooking show, to her own line of products. She’s funny, she’s smart, and she just makes you feel like you could be buds. She’s truly an inspiration to me!

It was an extremely rainy day across the Panhandle (praise the Lord!) and we ran our windshield wipers for at least 4 hours straight on a 6 hour drive. It was a nice dreary day. Personally my favorite kind of day for traveling. We got to Pawhuska just a little after 1:30. It was perfect timing, for my sister and her husband were pulling up at the exact same time. The sun was shining, though it was a little cool. There was a long-line waiting to eat at the restaurant, but what I was more interested in was getting inside the Merc, which there was no line for, though I’m told on some days it’s one in, one out.

IMG_7847.JPG

It was everything I could have hoped for! They had the cutest trinkets, dishes, jewelry and really just about anything you could think of. My brother-in-law came up and said, “I heard Ree is upstairs at the bakery!” So we walked up the beautiful staircase, and there she was…with a huge line wrapping around the whole upstairs! My brother-in-law said he’d get in line while we grabbed something yummy from the bakery. Shortly after, he came over and said they’d already cut off the line because she was needing to take a break.

IMG_7848

This is the best I could do of getting a picture with her. 🙂 It was pretty cool just getting to see her. The thing that most surprised me was she’s a lot taller than I thought she was, and her hair is the perfect shade of fiery red! It was fun getting to see her, even if it was from afar.

I got several cute little things. I finally got my hands on some of those floral enamel cups I mentioned in this post, a pair of beautiful beaded earrings, and a few other little knick-knacks. It was so fun looking through all the stuff in her shop. OH, and not to overshadow the things from her bakery were absolutely delicious! All-in-all it was a great day at the Mercantile. Though I never did get to meet her (missed the cut-off in the line again, it was truly sad) it was fun getting to see her from a distance and to just be there seeing all her ideas come to life. That would be a dream come true to me. Having my own little mercantile (though hers is by no means small) with a coffee/tea shop. It was inspiring and just a good ‘ol time.

IMG_7850.JPG

Before we left we saw Chuck, Lad’s dad, standing outside chit-chatting with some of the people waiting in line for the restaurant. My sister and I wanted to go speak to him because back in the 50’s-60’s he knew my Papa Sam, my mom’s dad. So we walked up and introduced ourselves and told him we were Sam Bratcher’s granddaughters. A smiled came across his face and he said, “I knew Sam real well. He ran cattle from Alva to Enid. Heck of a hand. Yes, I knew Sam real well.” It was really neat. It’s not often I get to hear people talk about my Papa Sam, so that was really special. We chit-chatted a little longer and he thanked us for coming up and introducing ourselves. We got a quick photo and went on our way.

IMG_7851

We moseyed around Pawhuska a bit, went to a place called The Bucking Flamingo where they told us they had a swinging bridge in town, so we decided to go check it out. It was maybe a little sketchy, but One Cute Cowboy and my brother-in-law were brave enough to venture across it and back.

IMG_7832

After we saw what there was to see, we headed back towards Tulsa, to go eat and head to my sister’s house.

It was a really fun time, and I’m so glad we went and got to spend some time with my sister and brother-in-law. I can’t wait to go back sometime!

Have any of my followers been to The Mercantile yet? I’d love to hear about it!

Friday Favorites⚡️

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a favorites post, so here are a few of my favorites lately. Some are wants, some I have/or have been using! Happy Friday!

Pioneer woman enamel floral cups

I’m in love with these Enameled Floral Tumblers from the Pioneer Woman’s Mercantile. These would make great little juice glasses or I can even see these sitting on my table this summer with a cute little flower arrangement in it. I’ve been dying to get to her Mercantile! Hopefully this summer!

Natural fiber Easter bunny with a pink flower crown on its head

Just look at this cutie!! Ya’ll I love Easter and Pier1 is killing it with cute bunnies this year! And let’s be serious, does it get any cuter than an animal with a flower crown on? I don’t think so either. Speaking of cute animals…

T-shirt with a cow head with a headband around its head
This is my favorite shirt right now! I wear it every chance I get. This is The Bessie over at Rosebud Tees. It’s one of the softest, most comfortable shirts I’ve ever owned. You can wear it casual or dress it up a bit with a cute cardigan and wedges. Absolutely loving this shirt!

NYX Lipstick

This lipstick is from the NYX Pin-Up Pout lipstick line. I’ve discovered that NYX is my lipstick soulmate. I first fell in love with the NYX Liquid Suede Cream. This is still one of my favorite go-tos, but since I liked it so much I ventured into their lipsticks and found the Pin-Up line. It goes on smooth, and though it doesn’t last as long as the Suede, it’s still great color for a good amount of time. This shade is called Savage. I’m looking forward to trying out Revolution and Rebel Soul.

Some of you my be familiar with Katie Daisy. She creates really beautiful, outdoor inspired notepads, magnets, books, and prints. I love her stuff, it just makes you feel good! She teamed up with her mother-in-law and they came up with Meadowland Simple Syrup. This is the Black Tea & Lavender Dusk, simple syrup. It says you can add it to lemonade, iced tea, or cocktails. I’m thinking about getting me some for this summer. There’s several different flavors, but this one I think looks yummy. Plus, I’m a sucker for good packaging. 🙂

That’s my Friday Favorites round-up! What are some of your current favorites? Always love to hear from you guys!

OkieWild

I’ve been blessed by knowing incredibly talented people in my life. From musicians, , to artist, to poetic masterminds, to creative DIY geniuses! I’ve been lucky enough to have some pretty inspiring people in my life.

Today I want to talk about one that’s been in my life since day 1. My cousin, Sam. Growing up, we were best friends, even though we lived 5 hours apart, that didn’t stop our endless phone calls, our summer adventures, and our ever-growing love for creativeness and imagination.

A summer picture, circa 1988. Kambri,Me,Sam, and Kizzi

Sam’s always had great interior-design-type taste! Always decorating with fun, funky colors and cool, creative pieces. She’s a cowgirl at heart with a Rock n Roll, gypsy soul! She’s rodeoed most of her life, and I can remember a time when she redid a complete dresser in funky pinks and oranges, then used belt buckles as the drawer handles. It was so stinkin’ cute! Well now she’s started her own little business called OkieWild Customs. She’s just starting out and she makes one of a kind signs for your homes, offices, business and probably whatever else you can think of!

This bad boy hangs proudly on my red office wall. One of my husband’s favorite quotes from The Duke, himself.

The Duke

Sam made this one for her friend’s bar in Stillwater, OK.

They also make great gifts! This is oneSam made for a friend of she and her husband’s initials and wedding date. It’s called the “Babe, I Got You Babe!” Such a cute idea!

She has creative, fun ideas. I’m just waiting for her to start doing custom furniture (hint hint Sam!) 😄

You can go visit her Etsy shop: OkieWild Customs

Also follow her on Instagram here

I promise you’ll find unique, one of a kind pieces that you’ll love! The best part is, she’ll customize it as much as you want. So go check her out and drop her a note!

Daily Favorites

I thought I’d share with you today four of my favorite everyday-type products. These are products you’ll always be able to find tucked away in whatever bag I’m carrying at the moment. I hope you enjoy!

For starters, I have really dry hands. They crack and bleed and can be pretty painful at times. The best thing I’ve found that helps keep them moisturized, healed, and smooth is Neutrogena’s Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. It’s said that it was inspired by the many different balms the Norwegian fisherman would have to use since they faced some of the harshest and extreme weather conditions. They developed this powerful,  concentrated glycerine-rich recipe that helped protect and heal their intensely dry hands. (I acquired this information here.)  One of the awesome things about this stuff is a little bit goes a long way, so it lasts quite a long time. It usually comes in a box and can be found at most drugstores. I bought mine at a United Supermarket.

Second is my Badger Headache Soother. This stuff is a-maz-ing! I don’t get headaches often, but once I feel one even start to come on I get out my little tin of Badger Soother and rub a little on my temples and viola! the headache is gone! It’s some seriously awesome stuff. It has an amazing smell to it as well with its lavender and peppermint scent. The Badger brand has many other products too, hand saulve, foot saulve, and lip balm that I’ve been wanting to try. It’s not as easily found as the Neutrogena, but I find my Badger products at Cracker Barrel. Plus how cute is that Badger?! I’m a sucker for good packaging.

I’ve always had trouble finding a good lipstick. I’ll find one I think I like, only to see a picture of myself with it on and realize it’s not exactly my best look. It’s a constant battle…or it WAS until I found this magical stuff! I subscribe to Ipsy Bag which is a fun little cosmetic bag I get once a month for $10. This “lipgloss” came in my bag a couple months ago and I’ve been using it daily ever since. It’s NYX Liquid Suede, this one is in the color Soft Spoken. This stuff goes on like a gloss (make sure you check your teeth after applying) and then it dries like a matte lipstick. It’s incredible stuff that actually lasts. I can apply it at the beginning of my day and reapply after lunch and be good for the rest of the day ( unless I have something I’m going to later in evening of course.)  This color is spot on with my skin tone, but I’m excited to try some of the different ones like Cherry Skies and Vintage. You can buy this anywhere they sale NYX Cosmetics, so places like Ulta, Sephora etc. should have it.

Lastly is my Young Living’s Tranquil roll-on oil. I’ve mentioned before my love of Lavender; this roll-on has lavender oil, cedarwood oil, coconut oil, and Roman Chamomile oil. This is my miracle worker on rough days at work. I use this when I feel tension in my neck, shoulders, or lower back. Lavender is a natural anti-inflammatory so it’s good for aches and pains. It’s also really great for headaches, hence why they use lavender in the Badger Balm. Also I use it as a calming oil for when I get frustrated or just need to relax. I roll some onto the back of my neck or my wrists and inhale deeply the aroma of sweet lavender and chamomile. This product is a little different to find, you have to buy it through a Young Living distributor, or be a Young Living member yourself. Just so happens yours truly just became a distributor! 🙂 But in all seriousness, I can’t speak highly enough on this stuff!
So there’s my four little favorite products of the moment. What are some of your favorite daily products? Or have you tried any of these products? I’d always love to hear from my readers!

**I am not being paid or sponsored by any of the above products or companies to post this, these are just simply products I believe in and use on a day to day basis.
