Winter Essentials ❄️

I’ve mentioned a few times on here how my skin is dry and sensitive. Winter months only make these two conditions worse. I’ve learned the more conscious I am during  the winter months of keeping it moisturized and taking care of my skin, the better it goes. (Seems like pretty easy stuff right?) Well this winter I’ve tried several new products and I have ended up really loving, and becoming a believer in some of them! Today I’d like to share them with you.

My face gets super dry during the colder months. One of the causes is with having animals I’m outside…a lot! I received  one of those face mask/Bane-looking things for Christmas so that’s definitely helped protect my face and lips from the elements; but the one thing I’ve been using religiously since the first of December is my Origins Three Part Harmony Nourishing Cream. I use this once in the morning before my make-up and once in the evening after taking my make-up off. It goes on like a dream and makes my skin feel supple and smooth. Not to mention the smell! Oh, it smells divine! It has an orangey hint to it  that just makes you feel like what you’re putting on your skin is pure goodness. It’s suppose to help renew, repair, and radiance. I really like this one!

Sometimes even though my Origins cream is a-ma-zing, I still get dry patches right on the apples of my cheeks and sometimes the tip of my nose. This is where Wildcrafted comes into play. This is only available through Perfectly Posh Consultants. (Here is mine.) This is a really nice and clean face balm, made of coconut and olive oils combined with oils from Northern California. It only takes a small amount and soaks in quickly. If you’ve never tried the Perfectly Posh products,  they have some really great, natural, skin care items.

My husband and I have come to LOVE this stuff. It’s Watkin’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion in the Coriander & Cedar scent. It’s a very pleasant scent that I really enjoy. It’s a gentle lotion, but works really well. Riley even uses it on his face. I  usually use it on my hands and feet, morning and night, but lately I’ve been using it as my all-over lotion. It just really provides the moisture and protection I need. The Watkins brand has been around since 1868, I think it’s safe to say they have good, quality products.

If you’ve been with me for awhile, you might remember my Detox Bath post. Taking baths is a great way for me to relax and also help my immune system out. I talked about Dr. Teal’s Epsom salts before, but after finding this Dr.Teal’s Ultra Moisturizing Mineral Soak, not only are those baths helping my immunity, but it’s helping give my overall skin a boost in hydration and elasticity. It’s secret is its alvacado oil that’s infused into the salts. One thing I really like about this salt is it’s not as course as some of the other epsom salts, it almost has a powdery feeling to it so it dissolves quickly in the bath. This has become a bath-time must at my house.

Lastly, this isn’t really a “winter essential,” but I got this as a free gift at Origins and I must say, it’s the best free gift I’ve ever gotten! This is Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Eye CreamI wish I had a before picture so I could show you how much this has not only brightened the look of my eyes, but made my eyes look less tired even on my sleepiest of days. I apply it morning and night and  love the way it smoothly goes onto my skin. I have very sensitive eyes, and this stuff hasn’t bothered them one bit. What I really love about the Origins brand is their products are plant-based, their slogan is: Powered by Nature. Proven by Science. I love that I can go onto their site and look up the plant ingredients and it tells what the ingredient is, how it’s used, and what of their products it’s in, what other sites do that? (Maybe there are others, but hey, don’t burst my bubble.);)                                                   I suppose the thing is, I trust the Origins brand on my sensitive skin.

That’s a wrap on what I’m using this winter. What products help your body and skin stay hydrated and well in the winter months? Have you tried any of these products? I always love hearing from my readers, so leave me a comment below if you’d like! 🙂

Let’s Talk Detox

Something I’ve really started to enjoy and look forward to at the end of a long day, are detox baths. Not only is it relaxing and helps detoxify your body,  but it can also help boost the immune system during cold season. That’s only one of the many ways that a detox is beneficial.

Here’s my favorite “recipe” for a detox bath:

  • 1 cup of Epsom Salt
  • 1/2 cup of Baking Soda
  • 8-10 drops of essential oil
  • A cup of green tea
  • A good book

For the longest time, I only used epsom salt and essential oil, then I read where baking soda was also a valuable ingredient to detoxing. It helps alkalize the body, renew and soften dry skin. Though I’ve read pregnant women and people with high blood pressure should not take baking soda baths.

When I decide to take a detox bath it goes something like this…

As the tub is filling up with fairly hot water, I make sure I have a cup of hot tea ready. My husband and I drink a cup of “Nightly Calm” every night, it’s the perfect blend of green tea with a hint of chamomile. I get a book handy, and I light a couple of my favorite candles. Then I add in the epsom salt (Dr. Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt is my favorite, there’s a lavender one that is amazzzzing) the baking soda, and 8-10 drops of essential oil. If I use the lavender epsom salt, I add either Cypress or Frankincense, otherwise I add in Lavender.

Then I sit and just soak! I enjoy reading, but if you’re more of a relaxing with music type of person then you should check out my friend’s soak playlist over at The Chanhandle or, even if you’re one of those amazing multi-tasking type people who can read a book and listen to music at the same time!

I promise once you step out you’ll feel relaxed and refreshed. I’ve found I always feel better in the morning when I drink a full glass of water after I get out to replenish my body with good fluids. That will help you from feeling drained the next morning.

Happy Soaking!
