Quick Shower Soother

Back when I was in college I fell in love with the Vick’s menthol shower disks. I loved how they cleared my sinuses and helped wake me up while I took a shower. Since then I’ve tried making the disks myself and I ended up with a crumbly, not very potent mess. I was disappointed. I had used quite a bit of oils only to find the disks weren’t very strong smelling and super hard to store.

With that said I’d like to share with you my quick version of a shower Soother. I instead call it a Shower Soother Bomb. This is one you can mix together just minutes before hoping in the shower.

your favorite oils,and a glass container to mix it up in; I like to use my Pioneer Woman ramekins. They’re the perfect size and just so dang cute!

Essential oil shower soother

All you do is put about 1/4 a cup or so (I never measure it, I just fill one of these babies up about half way) and add in your oils and voila! All you have to do is add it to your shower. Super quick, super easy! I like to let my water warm up and pour it on the floor of the bathtub right where my shower water is hitting. It instantly fills your shower up with great smells. Whether your sinuses are bothering you or you just need a pick-me-up, these are a great way to start out your morning!

Here are my two favorite combos to use:

Allergy/Sinuses Combo:

4 drops of Lemon

4 drops of R.C. (this is a respiratory blend containing Eucalyptus (E. globulus), Myrtle, Pine, Marjoram, Eucalyptus radiate (my favorite of the Eucalyptuses), Eucalyptus citriodora, Lavender, Cypress, Tsuga, and Peppermint.

Shower soother

Wake Me Up Combo:

4 drops of Cypress

4 drops of Bergamot

4 drops of Lemon/Citrus Fresh

This is such a refreshing blend and puts me in a happy mood, ready to take on the day!

Another oil I love to add to either one of these blends is the Northern Lights Black Spruce oil. This stuff makes you feel like you’re walking through a forrest. It’s great for a stuffy nose as well as helping you wake up. I add two or three drops of it often to my mixtures.

When I was single and living in Music City, U.S.A., this was my breakfast more times than not. Though Tennessee is the King of BBQ, Nashville is a very health conscious city. This was a simple, healthy breakfast I found I could maintain and keep up with fairly easily. Not only that, I could make a few days worth of breakfasts at a time.

All you need is the following: 

  • Glass jars, or any kind of container
  • Your favorite breakfast fruit: blueberries, strawberries, peaches, mangos…the list is endless
  • Greek yogurt
  • Granola

You simply get your jars ready and put anywhere from 1 cup to 1.5 cup of Greek yogurt in each jar. Now add your fruit, my personal favorite to use are these delicious fresh blueberries. But any mixture of berries or nectors would be great. Blueberries and strawberries make a great tasty, patriotic breakfast. 🇺🇸😉


Then just put the lid on them and put them in the refridgerator until you’re ready for breakfast. Through trial and error, I’ve learned the best time to add the granola is right before you’re ready to eat it, otherwise it gets soggy and doesn’t have that nice, satisfying crunch to it.


There you have it! A simple, healthy, delicious breakfast to get your day started! Grab a spoon and enjoy!

Spring Water

If you’re like my husband, sometimes it’s hard to hit that 8 glasses of water a day. He’s a Coke drinker through and through. He works hard, and fast, so it’s really essential that he does get all that water in his system throughout the day so he’s not dehydrated. Plus, don’t you just feel better when you drink enough water and stay hydrated? I know I sure do! 

So we’ve found that we’re more apt to drink water if it has a little flavor. So last night I made a yummy Strawberry & Lemon infused water. 

  
I just sliced up one lemon and three strawberries, put them in this nifty fruit infuser pitcher we got for a wedding gift, and filled it up with water! I usually like for my infused water to set at least over night to really get the flavors going. You can find a pitcher like this one here. If you don’t have a pitcher, a good ‘ol mason jar will work just as good!

I also put an orange, a lemon, a lime, and a few springs of fresh mint with water in a big Ball jar, then put in the refridgerator over night.  I’m excited to try it out once I’m home from work!

Let’s Talk Detox

Something I’ve really started to enjoy and look forward to at the end of a long day, are detox baths. Not only is it relaxing and helps detoxify your body,  but it can also help boost the immune system during cold season. That’s only one of the many ways that a detox is beneficial.

Here’s my favorite “recipe” for a detox bath:

  • 1 cup of Epsom Salt
  • 1/2 cup of Baking Soda
  • 8-10 drops of essential oil
  • A cup of green tea
  • A good book

For the longest time, I only used epsom salt and essential oil, then I read where baking soda was also a valuable ingredient to detoxing. It helps alkalize the body, renew and soften dry skin. Though I’ve read pregnant women and people with high blood pressure should not take baking soda baths.

When I decide to take a detox bath it goes something like this…

As the tub is filling up with fairly hot water, I make sure I have a cup of hot tea ready. My husband and I drink a cup of “Nightly Calm” every night, it’s the perfect blend of green tea with a hint of chamomile. I get a book handy, and I light a couple of my favorite candles. Then I add in the epsom salt (Dr. Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt is my favorite, there’s a lavender one that is amazzzzing) the baking soda, and 8-10 drops of essential oil. If I use the lavender epsom salt, I add either Cypress or Frankincense, otherwise I add in Lavender.

Then I sit and just soak! I enjoy reading, but if you’re more of a relaxing with music type of person then you should check out my friend’s soak playlist over at The Chanhandle or, even if you’re one of those amazing multi-tasking type people who can read a book and listen to music at the same time!

I promise once you step out you’ll feel relaxed and refreshed. I’ve found I always feel better in the morning when I drink a full glass of water after I get out to replenish my body with good fluids. That will help you from feeling drained the next morning.
