Do any of you remember the book Thunder Cake from when you were a kid? I think about this book fondly, as I remember having my parents read it to me over and over again. Today as it was storming in my little corner of the world, I was trying to cover up all of my flowers to protect them from the hail coming, all I could think of was the young girl in the story counting between the thunder to see how far the storm was away. I felt like that girl, trying to get everything done before the storm hit. Covering all the hard work I’ve already put into my flowerbeds and flower pots, getting all the animals where they’d be safe and out of the storm, then rushing to get myself to safety before everything hit.
It thundered and I started counting, ” 1…2…3…4…5…6….7…8…9…10…1CRASH!” I couldn’t help but let a grin sweep across my face, thinking about the anticipation I would have when reading the story, wondering if she’d get all the ingredients for her babushka’s Thunder Cake in time.
This is still one of my favorite stories.If you’ve never read it,read it. If you have kids or grandkids, get them this book, I promise they’ll not only have fun listening to the story, but you’ll have fun reading it.
Now, I think I’m going to see if I happen to have the ingredients for a Thunder Cake. Goodnight!
